razorCMS, the flat file content management system that can be as small or large as you wish. It's lego brick structure allows you to have just the amount of functionality you need in a CMS solution, helping to keep speed and simplicity at a maximum.

Start off with a core system install, then add the extra functionality as you need it via the blade pack management system. From WYSIWYG editors to SEF URL you can find the extra functionality you need via the blade pack system.

razorCMS is offered for free under the GPLv3 open source licence.

FTP Mode

Install and use the system under ftp mode, this will allow the whole system to be installed and run with your ftp user being the one who owns all files.

One major drawback with any system served by a web server is that new content is always created by the server, this means the server owns the files. Another drawback is any folders that the files are written into need to be world writable.

By using FTP mode you will overcome any issues of having files owned by your server, like deleting server owned files, re-storing a backup only to find you have lost ownership of files and cannot edit content after restore.

If you have the oppurtunity to use FTP mode please do so, it creates a more secure directory tree with NO world writable folders or files, makes backup restores fully editable, and all content and files are owned by your ftp user meaning they can be altered through a seperate ftp client and uploaded without ownership problems.

File Write mode

Install and use the system in file write mode if you cannot get ftp access to your web server, this mode install will guide you through the process of changing ownership of certain files and folders to your server taking away the need for world writable folders.

All files can then have their permissions set correctly whilst still being writable by your server. Please note, under file write mode, like any other CMS, when you restore a backup made through your ftp client, you will loose ownership of server owned files making files un editable through razorCMS.

Whilst this can be very annouying, it is the way servers work. To gain write access to files after a restore when using file write mode, the files you wish to edit must be set to world writable.

This is not a flaw in razorCMS but is normal server behavour and will be the same for any CMS solution which does not use FTP mode for writing to files.

NOTE : Please be aware that any file or folder on a public facing web directory that is set to 777 world writable permissions, is a security risk.
